Day 2 Route Description

Day 2 started from our B&B on the Isle of Seil heading back over the Bridge over the Atlantic, we were on the search for the Kilmartin Glenn Standing Stones and Temple Wood. After the Bridge over the Atlantic crossing we headed south towards Kilmartin. On the way south we found the Carnasserie Castle and stopped to take the short hike to the Castle. This is a neat location located on the top of a rise, much of the castle is still in place though not in great shape. There are good signs signifying locaitons in the castle. It was nice to get out of the car and hike!

After the Castle we headed south to Kilmartin and had a quick visit at the museum in town as well as looking at the replica Monk's Cell located next to the Museum. We also received directions to the Kilmartin Glen Standing Stones which was our next stop.

The Kilmartin Standing Stones and Templewood are co-located in a field a short walk from the highway over a small wooden bridge. We should have carried out more research on the site before visiting but it was still interesting. Temple Wood (or Half Moon Wood) contains two circles (north and south).

After visiting the Kilmartin area it was necessary to back-track to the north to connect with A816 to continue north
