Port au Choix to Labrador

In the morning we departed our B&B in more rain and fog for the St. Barbe to catch our ferry to Labrador. A few stops were planned for the route but because of the rain and fog again we drove straight through arriving in St. Barbe well before we had to be there for the ferry trip over to Quebec for the drive into Labrador. We did stop to take photos of the boats in the harbour. The drive north was slow due to weather conditions, we did drive around St. Barbe for a bit to pass the time. Then it was into to the lineup for the ferry.

The ferry could be heard as it blew its horn every few moments as it approached the harbour, we finally saw the ferry approaching in the small harbour with rocks all around, it did a sharp turn at the end to reach the port. Loading went quite quickly where we were placed on an upper ramp, the large trucks and buses were then placed below our ramp after the loading end was raised with vehicles on it! The ferry ride over isn't too long, though we were quite late in arriving in St. Barbe and even later leaving. We couldn't see a thing during the trip over other than FOG, bareley even seeing the bow of the ferry from the front seating area.

Arriving in Blanc Sabbon, Quebec we then drove to Forteau, Labrador where our B&B was located, the start of the drive was good until we hit the border with Labrador when the road quickly deterioated and became very rough with potholes and broken pavement. It took us a while to find our B&B in Forcheau as the address wasn't in the GPS and we couldn't see the B&B from the highway. Driving back and forth a bit until we saw, in the fog, a sign off to the side for the B&B. We checked in and decided that we had time to go to the Point Amour Lighthouse. It should have taken only 20 minutes to get to the lighthouse which would have left good time to visit with a 5 pm closing, as it was it was close to an hour to get there with the road conditions and fog.

The lighthouse tour was very interesting, even though at 15 metres from the lighthouse I could just make it out in the fog! I did climb to the top where the light is located, I could just make out the red roofs in the buildings near the lighthouse from the top. We had to rush our visit due to the time which is too bad. We planned to return the next day before our ferry ride back to Newfoundland.
