Day 11 Twillingate to Fogo Island

Day 11 was a wakeup call with bright sunshine outside so I was up early and ready to go. Before breakfast I headed out to do the hike up the hill behind the B&B. It ended up being higher than I expected as the actual top was hidden by a ridge line part way up! Was great to get out to do something quite vigourous even early in the morning. On the way up I met a bright yellow snail who I called friend. The hike varied from a good climb to a steep climb but the trail was good all the way. Great views of Twillingate on the way up and from the top.

After arriving back in the B&B it was time for our breakfast and coffee!!! We decided the day before that we would again change our schedule and take an ice burg tour from Twillingate, couldn't leave there without seeing them up close and personal. The tour left a bit late as a bus tour joined us after the boat they had booked ended up with problems. No problems, just happy to get out on the water and view ice burgs. About 300 photos later we ended up back at the wharf! Truly enjoyed the almost 3 hours on the water, didn't see any whales but that is the luck of the draw but we did see ICE BURGS, including the largest one which was over 200 feet high and about 250 feet long! And to think that that was only about 1/10 of its actual mass. We sure didn't get too close to that one! One highlight of the trip, only in Karen and my twisted minds, was spotting Harry Potter's uncle on the boat (not really but sure looked like him) which was a person who acted just like the person in the movies. Arrogant and just pushed his way past people to get to where he wanted to be!

After the boat trip it was time to head off to Fogo Island, due to the lateness of leaving Twillingate we couldn't stop anywhere on the route to the ferry to Fogo to ensure we arrived on time. We made it with a little time to spare and had no problem getting on, no reservations for this ferry. The normal ferry for this route is out of service due to damage from the spring ice so another was in service and it had a problem with the rear loading ramp so you had to load and exit from the front of the ferry, large trucks had to back off, there was enough room for us to turn around within the car deck to get off.

When we arrived on Fogo Island we did a tour of Seldom and Little Seldom just to see the area in our explorations, there are trails in the area that were originally planned for but due to the ice burg trip we arrived too late. Then we drove up to the B&B in Fogo, it was named Peg's Place. After getting settled in the B&B we went off in search of supper and ended up in The Cod Jigger Diner. After dinner we did a leasurly drive back to the B&B stopping to take photos of the wonderful rocky landscape along with a short walk up an old road where we ended up with a view overlooking Fogo townsite. A wonderful way to end the evening.
