Deer Lake to Twillingate

After a restful night in the hotel it was time to start heading eastward to Twillingate, an island off the north coast of Newfoundland that is now connected to the main Island with a causeway. The weather was rainy during the drive over on the TransCanada highway until the point where we turned off of the TransCanada. Nice scenery for what we could see and the road was in good shape with a few spots of construction like always during the short work season. After we turned off the highway to start North the road was not nearly as good. We ended up behind a large truck hauling a lot of firewood for most of the way, slowing us down a bit.

Once you reach the coastline of the main island you start a trip of jumping from island to island via causeways, in fact six islands before you reach South Twillingate Island. On the drive we did stop at one Crafts Shop where Karen purchased a "Happy Stick" for her son, Devin. It was probably the ugliest one I saw on the whole trip and that is saying a lot! I also purchased some gag gifts for my sister Betty, her husband Wayne, and my grand neice and nephew. The drive took much longer than expected and we arrived at the B&B in the late afternoon.
